Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I am not a professional baker, can I still volunteer?
A: Yes! High level baking skills are not necessary. We do ask that you do your best to deliver a special cake with thought given to the child’s or senior’s interests. In order to do that we recommend taking a decorating class provided by craft stores such as our local Woodworm Party Store, or Michael’s Crafts. You may also volunteer to do marketing, secure donations or deliver cakes.

Q: Do I need to have a licensed kitchen?
A: No, we are protected under  the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act. We do ask that your kitchen be clean, and care taken with raw foods such as eggs so that all cakes are baked with food safety in mind.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A: You get to decide! Orders are shared as they are received and you select them based on your availability. We prefer a commitment of at least one cake per month.

Q: Where do I get ideas or supplies?
A: After you submit a request to become a volunteer we’ll provide you with a list of local and additional resources to help you along the way.
